بدأ المؤلف بالحديث عن موقع مدينة بخارى، ثم تحدث عن نشأتها، وفتحها على يد قتيبة بن مسلم الباهلي تحت عنوان: قتيبة في بخارى، ثم تحدث عن ذكرها في كلام الجغرافيين المسلمين، كياقوت الحموي، ثم تحدث عن ما نالها من محن، ثم خضوها للروس، ثم خطط بخارى وآثارها الباقية، وبذلك ختم الكتاب.
