Fukuoka Mosque


History


In 1998, Muslim international students enrolled at Kyushu University decided to establish the Fukuoka Islamic Center (FIC for short) in Fukuoka.

December 2004 Officially registered as "Islamic Cultural Center Kyushu" (ICCKyu for short). In September 2005, ICCkyu purchased 336 m2 of land in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka. (Current location). In March 2006, ICCKyu requested the Nagata Architectural Office in Fukuoka City to design the mosque.

In June 2006, the community raised funds in Japan and abroad and raised 100 million yen. In April 2008, they finally convinced the local residents to start construction of the mosque. In march 2009, The Fukuoka Mosque was completed and officially handed over to ICCkyu by the construction company. The hall was officially opened on April 12, 2009, and the ceremony was held grandly.

Urban and Architectural


The first floor is mainly set for the men's prayer room, the second floor is the women's prayer room. On the basement level, there is a multi-purpose hall, a library, and a kitchen. The third floor has classrooms and a kitchen.

The cultural wing of the mosque offers weekend Arabic language lessons for kids, women and men, cooking classes once every three months. It also arranges seminars and dialogue sessions occasionally.

Fukuoka Mosque aims to serve around 1,000 Muslims in Fukuoka Prefecture, as well to serve people in Japan fascinated by Islam. It arranges every day prayers, Friday prayers, Eid prayers on standard basis. It sometimesarranges program for change into Islam, Muslim marriage, and funeral prayers.
