Assunna Mosque (Casablanca)


History


A mosque created in 1966 in Casablanca, Morocco, by Jean-François Zevaco in the modernist architectural style It has brutalist architectural features including exposed concrete. It is situated where Boulevard 2 Mars and Boulevard Modibo Keta intersect.


It was influenced by the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi by Oscar Niemeyer at Pampulha, Belo Horizonte.

Urban and Architectural


Designed in the brtualist style, the plan of the mosque is rectangular, and the ceieling has multiple ondulations that are also visible from the elevations.


Description


the interior is naturally illuminated by honeycomb form in the windows. Also the vault ceiling allows the praying space to be whole, without any disruptio of columns. 

Unfortunately, it was set to be demolished in 2018.
