The Great Mosque of Central Java is designed in a mixed Javanese, Islamic and Roman architectural style. Designed by Ir. H. Ahmad Fanani from PT. Atelier Six Jakarta who won the MAJT design competition in 2001. The main building of the pyramid-roofed mosque is typical of Javanese buildings, but at the ends it is equipped with a large dome with a diameter of 20m plus 4 minarets each 62m high in each corner of the roof as a form of a universal Islamic mosque complete with one separate tower of the mosque building as high as 99m.
The Romanesque style can be seen from the building of 25 pillars in the courtyard of the mosque. The pillars in the style of the Roman Colosseum in Rome are decorated with beautiful calligraphy, symbolizing the 25 Prophets and Prophets, on the gate are written two sentences of the creed , on a flat field written Arabic Malay letters “Sucining Guno Gapuraning Gusti”.
This Central Java Grand Mosque, apart from being prepared as a place of worship, is also prepared as a religious tourist attraction. To support this goal, the Grand Mosque is equipped with a guest house with a capacity of 23 rooms of various classes, so that pilgrims who want to spend the night can take advantage of the facilities.
Another attraction of this mosque is the Al Husna Tower or Al Husna Tower which is 99 meters high. The base of this tower contains the Dais Radio Studio (Islamic Da’wah) and TVKU transmitter. Meanwhile, the 2nd and 3rd floors are used as the Museum of Islamic Culture, and on the 18th floor there is a Muslim Cafe which can rotate 360 degrees. The 19th floor is the viewing tower, equipped with 5 binoculars that can see the city of Semarang. At the beginning of Ramadan 1427 H, the binoculars at this mosque were used for the first time to see Rukyatul Hilal by the Central Java Rukyah Team using sophisticated binoculars from Boscha .
