The ‘chahar-taq’ and ‘axis mundi,’ which connect earth’s gravity and heaven’s light, are established as traditional spatial features in this mosque.
The proposal, a concrete and stone structure, includes a minaret, a mausoleum, a prayer hall, a space for women to worship, ablution facilities, a courtyard, and ablution facilities. Traditional dome construction was beyond the skill of the available labor, thus a 15-degree spiraling form was created out of a series of concrete boxes. Beginning with a 15-degree tilt toward the north, the spiral gradually normalizes with the prayer lines below and the “Kaaba” beyond.
