Ayer Barok Mosque is a mosque located in Pekan Jasin, Melaka in Malaysia. This mosque was formerly used as the main mosque of Pekan Jasin. It is located in the centre of the area. The pioneer in the construction of this mosque was Nong Amin Haji Akob. He is also the first imam in this mosque. The land of the mosque belongs to Tok Senara from Aceh. He bequeathed his land to his son, Nong. The maintenance of this mosque is carried out by Malays from Indonesia.
The Ayer Barok Mosque is without a minaret. The three-tiered roots feature similar characteristics of many previous mosques, with a pyramidal and elevated roof structure. It is richly ornamented with an elaborate stona carved pinnacle ‘crown’ and floral motif roof eaves detailing. The clay roof tiles have been retained and used.
The entrance porch saw the influence of Art Deco architecture, a concrete flat root with square shape pediment with a plate in the middle bearing the mosque name in Malay Jawi script. It was probably influenced by the development of such a style that was being popularised then in the colonial town of Melaka.
The mosque’s building is formed of a square layout, elevated with five steps. It leads to the surrounding veranda area, fringed with a small balustrade and concrete round columns. Various entrance doors give easy access and natural ventilation into the mosque’s interior spaces.
Inside the main prayer hall, a timber strip ceiling above has covered up the exposed roof structure from below. The four main posts in the middle are decorated elaborately with embossed and colourful wall files. The posts stand in front of the Qibla wall, where a small mihrab niche is located. To its right, a decorative minbar platform of Javanese influence is used by the imam to deliver his Friday sermons.
