The mosque is one of the few located in Northern Queensland. Cairns is a city in Queensland, Australia, on the tropical north east coast of Far North Queensland. The city was founded in 1875 and named after Sir William Wellington Cairns, the Governor of Queensland from 1875 to 1877.
Cairns Mosque, also known as Abou Bakr Asdeek Mosque, is located in the suburb of North Cairns and is the only mosque in Cairns. It is therefore frequently used by the small local Muslim community in Cairns, as well as by Muslims from the nearby cities.Â
The mosque is composed of two main buildings juxtaposed together. The building looks more like a house inspired by tropical architecture of the region.
