Once in the past known as the Duyong Mosque, Jamek Laksamana Hang Tuah Mosque is among the 54 memorable mosques in Melaka. As its title delineates, its foundation was connected to the incredible warrior of the previous Melaka Malay Sultanate, Hang Tuah. It was built after the giving over of Melaka by the Dutch to the British as portion of the British Straits settlement.
It highlights the normal Melaka Malay vernacular mosque design of layered roof with a pagoda fashion minaret. All through the long time, different parts of the mosque have been included, counting a minaret on the southeast side of the mosque which was built in 1909. In 1960, major redesign was started that saw the changing of the initial clay tiles, a unused staircase and ceiling wrap up and an extra bathing lake was included the taking after year. To meet the expanding number of admirers, advance extension venture was performed, once in 1973 and the other in 1976.
A terrible occasion happened in 1982 when a fire bulldozed a few parts of the mosque’s structure. In spite of the fact that the mosque was seriously harmed, the most building shape was still intaglio and unaffected. Another expansion extend was wiped out 1991 to cater to the expanding number of admirers, with extra pieces on the eastern side of the mosque.
