The mosque was built under the Phase 4 of the Mosque Building Fund programme to cater to the large demographic of young families in the Buangkok and Sengkang area.
Aside from its numerous family friendly features for the young and the old, it also boasts a number of environmentally friendly features that are energy-conserving. Due to this mosque has attained the Greenmark Certification (2009 & 2011) from the Building and Construction Authority.

The open-to-all concept and “Family Friendly” theme proposed by the mosque promises various programmes and facilities to enhance community bonding among the different races and families across the different age groups.

The mosque’s capacity is increased to 4,000 worshipers during peak periods.

When the Al-Mawaddah Mosque opened in 2009 with its roof-top garden, aluminium exteriors, and Building and Construction Authority (BCA) green-mark-award winning sustainability features, it was a sign that mosques in Singapore are going through a philosophical change to engage the country’s young Muslims and “stay relevant in modern context”, as noted by Zaini Osman, head of the mosque policy and planning division of Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS). The mosque, which is located at Compassvale Bow, it has no dome. Instead, it has a computer equipped youth corner to engage young Muslims.
