Currently, there is a prayer house in the South West of Western Australia, which is the first Muslim house in Bunbury where the area is becoming more multicultural. Truly a multi-cultural gathering spot, run by The Islamic Association of Bunbury, it used to be confined to Muslims of Christmas Island and Cocos origins. Today, it is a meeting place for Muslims from Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Iraq, Iran, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, South Africa, Ghana, Guinea Republic and more. Bunbury is about 173 kilometres south of Perth.
The project for a new bigger site includes a mosque that accommodates 300 worshippers and community centre, an outdoor activity area, and a kid’s playground. Its architecture is modern and minimalistic using local bricks on the facades. The building is divided as follows: 420 m² Roof area, 190 m² Main Prayer Hall and Minaret, 140 m² Amenities and Services, 170 m² Outdoor Activities area, 1670 m² Car Parking, 780 m² Paved and 70 m² Greenery. The land has been bought for the project and detailed plans were prepared by Architect Amil Al-Hasan but the project still un built yet. The new mosque location is 94/0 Coleman Turn, Picton East WA 6229, Australia.
