The Magnitogorsk Cathedral Mosque is a unique architectural structure, the prototype of which was the Masjid Qubbat al-Sakhra mosque, located in the outskirts of Jerusalem. The mosque has a hall for men and a hall for women, has a modest interior and is designed for 1000 worshipers. The building of the mosque and the high minaret are clearly visible from afar and attract attention. This mosque became the first Cathedral Dome Mosque in the Chelyabinsk Region and the second mosque in Magnitogorsk.
In addition to the prayer space, the complex offers various services, including ritual ablution areas, a Quranic school, a library, and accommodations for the Imam and staff. The whole complex is raised by 3 m relative to the existing relief.
In the Magnitogorsk complex, the services’ building is a crescent shape, the mosque building is a nine-pointed star in plan. In the geometric centre of the crescent there is a minaret, from the viewing platform of which the muezzin calls to prayer.
The compositional and planning axis of all three volumes is oriented towards the qibla, that is, the Kaaba, the center of Islam. The mosque faces the main entrance to the Gryaznov street, with a rotation of 20° relative to the north-south axis. The two floors of the building are connected by an arched portal. The interiors are modest, geometric and floral ornaments are used in the design of the mihrab.
