Razin Mahmoud Architect, Principle of RAZIN ARCHITECTS

Born in Johor Bahru in 1965, Razin earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 1988. He began his career as an intern architect with Clovis Heimsath Architects in Austin, Texas, before returning to Malaysia in 1989 to join Hajeedar and Associates in Kuala Lumpur. In 1992, he moved to A Karim Akitek in Johor Bahru and later became a Project Architect at AF Consultant Architect in 1995, leading a major development project in Kuala Lumpur. In 1996, Razin established his own firm, Razin Architect, in Kuala Lumpur before relocating back to his hometown in early 1997. By 2014, his firm had grown into the renowned Razin Architects Sdn Bhd.

Over the years, Razin’s practice has earned numerous design awards, with his work widely published both locally and internationally. He plays a key role in Iskandar development, designing high-profile projects such as a condominium in Puteri Harbour and twin office towers in Medini, while maintaining his reputation for crafting high-end bungalows and small-scale projects characterized by simplicity and thoughtful execution. Beyond practice, Razin has been actively involved in academia, serving as an external panelist for local universities such as UTM and UiTM since 2000 and as a Guest Associate Professor at UTM from 2007 to 2009. In 2010, he was invited as a guest speaker at the UN Habitat Week at the Shanghai World Expo, presenting on Johor Bahru’s rapid urban emergence, based on a 2009 photo survey project in collaboration with Alessandro Scotti, former UN Goodwill Ambassador. Razin’s international recognition includes three prestigious awards: “100 Architects of the Year 2013” by the Korean Institute of Architects, the ARCASIA Gold Medal for Sustainable Architecture, and the Golden Emerging Architect Malaysia award from India’s Architecture + Design & CERA Awards.
