Dalila ElKerdany is a Professor of Architecture and Urban Design at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University; an adjunct Professor of Architecture at the American University in Cairo; a practicing architect; and a Chairman of MIMAR Engineering Consultancy. She is also the Chair of the Architecture Committee at the Supreme Council of Culture. She obtained her B.Sc. in Architecture Engineering, M.Sc. in Architecture, as well as Ph.D. in Architecture from Cairo University in the years 1979, 1986, and 1992. During the years 1989-1992 she was a visiting fellow at the University of California at Berkeley. The Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2001 Cycle invited her to participate in the technical review team for the nominated projects from Turkey. She is involved in research, education, as well as practice in the fields of design, conservation, and heritage. Among the rehabilitation projects that she undertook are: restoration and rehabilitation for Damnhour Creativity Center for Art and Culture (opened 2013), Royal Carriages Museum (under construction), and museum scenario for the Mohamed Aly Collection at the Citadel (2001). With a large team she is designing the exhibition and interior design; and supervises the construction of the Akhnaton museum in Menya (2006-on). She was the coordinator and main researcher for the EU funded research projects “HAMMAM” (2005-2008), and “Hammamed” (2009-2011). Both projects dealt with putting strategies for the sustainable conservation of Islamic public bathes within the Mediterranean area in a multidisciplinary approach, while considering both tangible and intangible heritage of this unique building type. She is the Prime investigator of the joint research project: “Sustainable Green Markets (SUS-Mar)”, funded by Newton-Musharrafa Fund (2017-2018)
